So, I had this big plan, I was going to get up this morning make my way out to feed the animals than spend some time catching up on housework. Then I was going to spend some time baking bread sticks, The Most Amazing Breadstick recipe out there. followed by resting and maybe catching up on some reading. Well, I now know why my grandmother used to joke about if you want to see God laugh make plans. Thats exactly how my day went, I went out to feed the pigs that always think they are hungry, she might be cute but don’t believe her when she tells you I don’t feed her, and she will.
How the Morning Started
When I went out to feed, I glanced out to the back pasture where the milk cows are currently so they can rest up and get ready to calve again. What do I spot but what looks like a brown spot laying out in the middle of the wheat field.
I mean who could be mad at that face though. Getting the binocular’s out I take a look just to confirm that it is in fact a cow out in the wheat field that she has managed to get out somehow and is now in the field. After getting her back in and fixing the fence where she broke out. I tried to at least get a little back on track but ended up helping my father fill the drills with Oats for the cattle. Finally making it back home I did get to make breadsticks they are the simplest most completely amazing breadstick.
How It Ended
They are so simple, start by mixing in a small bowl the yeast with warm water just make sure it is not over 110 degrees, or you risk killing the yeast. Add 2 tablespoons of sugar to the yeast and let it set for 5 or so minutes until foamy. Melt butter in the microwave and let cool off just a bit. While you’re waiting mix the flour, salt, and Italian seasoning together, I do this in my mixer on low. Speaking of mixers, I absolutely love mine and it was only $99 dollars on amazon. It really is an amazing machine the color is beautiful and works wonderfully.
Pour in the foamy yeast mixture and the slightly cooled butter mix until it starts to form a ball.
Take out of bowl and knead on a lightly floured surface, divide into 12 pieces and roll out into long ropes. I try to go about 8 inches long. Place on parchment paper, cover with wet towel to raise until doubled usually about 45 minutes. (I like to let rise in the oven with a pan of water that was boiling previously.) Next remove the towel and bake for 15 minutes at 350 degrees or until browned. I like to butter the tops and sprinkle with garlic salt during the last 5 minutes of baking. This really is the most amazing breadstick recipe out there.
